Vacancy List

The National Vacancy List is produced at the beginning of each month and is distributed electronically and by mail to those ministry personnel in Hamilton Conference who have requested it.  Please contact Janet Macaulay (jmacaulay@hamconf.org) to be added to the distribution list. You are asked to notify Janet when you no longer require the list.

If a vacancy has been declared at your congregation/pastoral charge the Joint Search Committee will receive a letter of instruction from the Conference Personnel Minister regarding the work that lies ahead of you, as well as the current National Availability List and a complimentary copy of the Pastoral Relations Guide. You are asked to provide the name and mailing address (including e-mail address) and telephone number of the Chairperson of your committee. Please note that this information will appear on the National Vacancy List as the contact person for your Pastoral Charge. The National Availability List will also be sent to this person each month.  Please send this information to Janet Macaulay at jmacaulay@hamconf.org.

Congregational Designated positions are not currently included in the National Vacancy List. Please see below for information regarding congregational postings of which we are aware and for which permission has been given to us to post the contact information.

East Plains

East Plains is looking for a Visitation Minister to visit those not able to get to church on a regular basis; this is a position of 8 hours per week.  There would be an opportunity to help with Sunday services once in awhile if so desired. Parish Nurse (RegN)

This part-time position will commence in September 2010.  The successful applicant will work 10 hours per week and will assume responsibility for providing care of the whole person – body, mind and spirit. He/she will work closely with other church staff, most often the ordained minister.

The successful applicant will have the minimum qualification of Registered Nurse and hold a current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

The successful applicant will have a strong knowledge base of geriatric, pediatric, acute care and mental health nursing.  He/she will illustrate strong leadership skills and demonstrate a passion and commitment for a health ministry.

The successful applicant will be proficient in the use of computers for the purposes of report writing and presentations.

Youth Leader

St. James United is a growing church, offering two worship services Sunday morning -- a contemporary and a traditional service -- providing 2 different opportunities for the congregation to worship God.  We are in need of someone who will develop and lead Youth ministries, including a Sunday morning program and mid-week Youth Groups.  We are looking for someone who has a passion for youth and enjoys doing what youth like to do.

Position Description:

  1. Work with youth in developing a Youth Program that promotes fun and faith in Jesus!
  2. Help develop and grow the Youth program by reaching out into the community and engaging kids from outside the church.
  3. Be present each Sunday, developing relationships with Youth.
  4. Offer Youth classes Sunday morning for Jr. and Sr.  Youth and a midweek youth group for Jr. and Sr. Youth, with possible overlap time.
  5. Encourage and work with volunteers to assist in Youth classes and Youth groups.
  6. Develop and lead a Confirmation class once per year, as needed.
  7. Coordinate and oversee special youth events.
  8. Organize occasional “music times” for Youth.
  9. Meet with ministerial staff of the church and lay leadership regularly.
  10. Encourage the children of the Breakfast Club of BLAST to transition into the Junior Youth Program.

Time Required:

The position is available August 15, 2010 (with the start date being negotiable). The hours are 12 hours per week for 10 months.  This is a paid position. There are three weeks holidays (dates to be decided on with Minister and the CD team).

Position Description
The face of BLAST (Bible Learning and Some Things!)

St. James United is a growing church, offering two worship services Sunday morning -- a contemporary and a traditional service -- providing 2 different opportunities for the congregation to worship God.  We are in need of someone who will coordinate Children’s ministries (preschool to approximately grade 6) including a Sunday School Program (known as “BLAST”), special events and an annual Vacation Bible School (VBS) program.  We are looking for someone who has a passion for children and enjoys doing what kids like to do – our objective is to find the ‘face of BLAST’ – someone who by example makes church fun and learning about Jesus  natural … “a VBS feel on a weekly basis!”

Position Description:

  1. Provide support, coordination and active teaching, and mentorship for BLAST volunteers.
  2. Be present each Sunday, sitting with children during story times or singing, some weeks actively teaching and some in combination – being visible to all children and their parents.  Pray with children, rotating to different groups and times.
  3. Assist in the selection of exciting curriculum as needed.
  4. Ensure weekly packages are prepared for all BLAST volunteers, including a Bible story that can be used in our Nursery (infants and toddlers).
  5. Work with current volunteers, ensuring support and assistance as needed.
  6. Develop and maintain schedule for BLAST volunteers.  Keep in contact with BLAST volunteers.
  7. Coordinate and oversee special events at times other than Sunday morning.
  8. Organize occasional “music times” for children.
  9. Meet with ministerial staff of the church and lay leadership regularly.
  10. Summer – coordinate and assist in a summer BLAST program.  (Note: There is only one “blended” worship service in the summer).
  11. Summer of 2010: assist volunteers with Vacation Bible School, including being present for the week of VBS.  Summer of 2011: offer hands on leadership, coordination and support for the 2011 VBS program.

Time Required:

The position is available August 1, 2010, with the start date being negotiable.  The hours are 6 hours per week for 13 months, ending August 31, 2011.  This is a paid position.  This position offers four weeks holidays (dates to be decided with CD, Minister and existing coordinators).

Qualifications & Special Skills:

Personal faith in and commitment to Jesus Christ; genuine caring for children; comfortable, and enjoys working, with children; works well as part of a team; has gifts and talents in connecting with people, in organizational skills and music; has a passion for connecting with children and engaging children and their parents.  Successful candidate will require a valid and clear Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
